Ghana, Gabon, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Ethiopia

※ In addition to the above countries, many other countries require a Yellow Card only if you have transited through or stayed in a high-risk yellow fever area prior to arrival. Please be cautious and confirm requirements beforehand.

Yellow fever is a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes. It begins with symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain, and nausea. After an initial recovery phase, the disease may progress to a severe stage with recurrent fever, jaundice, internal bleeding, and liver or kidney failure. The fatality rate ranges from 20% to 50%. Yellow fever is highly prevalent in regions of Africa and South America, and poses a significant threat to unvaccinated travelers. Early prevention is essential to reduce the risk of serious complications or death.

The most effective way to prevent yellow fever is vaccination. A single dose provides lifelong immunity. Ten days after vaccination, travelers receive an internationally recognized certificate (Yellow Card), which is required for entry into some countries. In addition to vaccination, preventive measures such as wearing long sleeves, using mosquito repellents, and sleeping under mosquito nets are recommended, especially in high-risk areas. Combining vaccination with protective habits offers the most reliable protection.

The yellow fever vaccine is generally valid for life after a single dose. Previously, revaccination every 10 years was recommended, but the World Health Organization (WHO) now recognizes one dose as sufficient for lifelong immunity. However, it takes 10 days after vaccination for the Yellow Card to become valid. Some countries or individuals with specific medical conditions may still require or recommend a booster, so travelers should check local regulations before departure.
