Types of acne and treatment
What is acne?
Acne is a skin condition where the pores are clogged with sebum and dead skin cells, leading to inflammation. Acne occurs mainly on the face, back and chest, where there are many sebaceous glands. Hormonal imbalances, stress, diet and genetic factors play a role. Acne can range from mild to severe and can leave scars if left untreated.
Age at which acne is most likely to occur & Causes of Acne
Acne is mainly seen during puberty. It is most common in young people in their late teens and early twenties, but can also occur in adults. Adult acne mainly occurs in women in their 30s and 40s, due to changes in hormonal balance, stress and use of cosmetics. Lifestyle disorders, lack of sleep and dietary habits can also aggravate acne. Infant acne can also occur temporarily in infancy, but usually resolves spontaneously.
Types of acne and its treatment
1.White Acne (pimple)
Pores are clogged with sebum and keratin, and there is no inflammation. It is treated as mild acne. The recommended treatment is to keep the pores clean by properly managing sebum with face washing and skin care.
2. Black pimple (open pimple)
This is a condition in which pores are open and sebum is oxidized and appears black. Cleansing, peeling agents, and topical medications containing retinoids are used to unclog the pores
3. Inflammatory acne
This is a red, swollen condition that may be painful. Anti-inflammatory topical medications and antibiotics are effective. Seeking medical attention is recommended.
4. Acne suppurativa
This is a condition in which inflammation progresses and pus accumulates. It requires oral antibiotics, topical medications, and in some cases, dermatological treatment.
5. cystic acne
In the most severe form, large pus forms with deep inflammation. Specialist treatment is required and in some cases, oral medication or laser treatment may be considered.
