Influenza Vaccination (for the 2025-2026 season)
We has received the influenza vaccine for the 2025–2026 season. While influenza cases have already been reported in Indonesia, we especially encourage families who are planning to travel back to Japan at the end of the year to consider getting vaccinated. It generally takes about two weeks for antibodies to develop, and the immunity is expected to last for approximately six months after vaccination.
This is a quadrivalent vaccine, expected to protect against the four strains predicted to circulate this season:
-
A/Victoria/2022 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus
A/Croatia/2023 (H3N2)-like virus
B/Austria/2021-like virus
B/Phuket/2013-like virus
Is this vaccine for the Northern Hemisphere or the Southern Hemisphere?
The vaccines we received at the end of September 2025 are for the Northern Hemisphere.
Is the influenza vaccine used in Indonesia the same as the one that will be used in Japan this winter?
No, they are different. In Indonesia, the quadrivalent (4-strain) vaccine is mainly used, while in Japan this year, the trivalent (3-strain) vaccine is expected to be administered—meaning Japan’s vaccine covers one fewer strain. In addition, while the vaccines distributed in Indonesia are based on the strains that WHO recommended for the Northern Hemisphere, the Japanese government adopted a different set of strains from WHO’s recommendation, so there are some differences in the strains covered.
