It begins with symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain, and nausea. After an initial recovery phase, the disease may progress to a severe stage with recurrent fever, jaundice, internal bleeding, and liver or kidney failure. The fatality rate ranges from 20% to 50%. Yellow fever is highly prevalent in regions of Africa and South America, and poses a significant threat to unvaccinated travelers. Early prevention is essential to reduce the risk of serious complications or death.

How to Prevent Yellow Fever

The most effective way to prevent yellow fever is vaccination. A single dose provides lifelong immunity. Ten days after vaccination, travelers receive an internationally recognized certificate (Yellow Card), which is required for entry into some countries. In addition to vaccination, preventive measures such as wearing long sleeves, using mosquito repellents, and sleeping under mosquito nets are recommended, especially in high-risk areas. Combining vaccination with protective habits offers the most reliable protection.

Number of Doses

The yellow fever vaccine is generally valid for life after a single dose. Previously, revaccination every 10 years was recommended, but the World Health Organization (WHO) now recognizes one dose as sufficient for lifelong immunity. However, it takes 10 days after vaccination for the Yellow Card to become valid. Some countries or individuals with specific medical conditions may still require or recommend a booster, so travelers should check local regulations before departure.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many days before travel should I get vaccinated?

You must be vaccinated at least 10 days before your departure to a country requiring the Yellow Card. Without this 10-day period, the certificate is not valid and you may be denied entry.

How long is the Yellow Card valid?

Since 2016, the WHO has recognized the yellow fever vaccine as valid for life after a single dose. The Yellow Card is therefore also considered valid for life. However, some countries may still follow older rules, so always check in advance.

Click here to make an appointment

\\For After-Hours Matters, Please Click Here!/

            Make an appointment via Whatsapp

\\For Urgent Matters During Clinic Hours, Please Click Here!/

            +62 21 8665 6830
